Description
The Venue:
Nestled at the foot of the South Downs, just outside Lewes, Hamsey House is a Victorian country home, built in 1849. The Bell family has lived here for 40 years creating a tranquil garden where you can connect with nature. When you visit you will discover an orchard with a wildflower meadow, a vegetable and cut flower garden, large herbaceous border, a parterre and many mature English trees and shrubs.
The Workshop:
The workshop will be held both in the gardens of Hamsey House and in The Flower Studio – a self-contained cabin in the garden.
This workshop is about learning some simple floral arranging techniques and embracing your creativity. You will be using stems that have been grown in the garden at Hamsey. Using a plant that you have sown, nurtured, grown and then harvested to use in an arrangement brings great joy and the purpose of the session is to inspire you to do the same. Taking your love of flowers from the garden and into your own home. The workshop includes:
• Discussion about Cutting garden must have flowers.
• Embrace your creativity and create a flower bowl from stems collected on the garden tour.
• How to make your own hand tie posey (to take home).
About The Tutor:
Amy Bell is a floral stylist with a love of seasonal English country flowers, foliage and vintage styling. Her garden is a constant inspiration for her flower arrangements which include both fresh and dried flowers. Amy uses a ‘no floral foam’ approach so all arrangements are created using a pin frog and chicken wire base. Amy’s arrangements have a naturalistic feel capturing the beauty of the garden and movement of the stems but in a vessel. A workshop with Amy will encourage you to find your own floral creativity and help it blossom.
