Description

The Victorian Walled Gardens at Floors Castle are set in woodland and comprise many productive glasshouses, an extensive vegetable and fruit garden with cutting flowers and numerous, beautifully planted herbaceous borders, with a Tapestry garden and many other interesting features.

Simon McManus the Head Gardener at Floors Castle, will discuss the different techniques adopted to winter prune the fruit trees within the garden. The main task of the day will be spur pruning of the heritage apple trees in the Millenium Garden. Everyone will be able to prune the goblet and pyramid apples, along with the round caged apples! After a break for lunch in the cafe, Simon will demonstrate the removal of the lower limbs of the large crab apple trees and the way these are pruned. This will be followed by a walk through the glasshouses and around the borders and attendees will be able to question the gardening team who creatively care for this lovely four acre Walled Garden.

Simon McManus is the Head Gardener at Floors Castle where he has worked for 18 years. Prior to this role, he was in charge of the extensive range of glasshouses and his expertise is wide ranging.

Please bring sharp, clean secateurs, gardening gloves and weather appropriate clothing

The cost of the day is £35.00.  Tea and coffee will be provided and lunch is available to purchase at the Terrace Cafe.
