Description

Hampton Court Palace is a Grade 1 listed Royal Palace on the River Thames in the London Borough of Richmond. The grounds as they appear today were laid out in the 17th century.

Hilary Theaker is the Kitchen Garden Keeper and Vine Keeper at Hampton Court Palace. She maintains the historic walled kitchen garden, using both old and modern gardening techniques to grow a wide variety of vegetables, fruits and herbs all year round.

The day will start at 10.30am with a talk about the kitchen garden, it’s history, design and maintenance. Attendees will be advised on soil preparation, discuss ‘no dig’ gardening, and direct sow some seeds. You will also plant out some plugs, undertake some weeding, and possibly harvest asparagus or rhubarb. Hilary will be working with the group, answering any questions that you might have and will detail her planting plans for the year ahead. The day will conclude at 3.30pm with a break for lunch. Attendees are then be free to explore the rest of the gardens at Hampton Court at the end of the day.

Please Bring:
Attendees are asked to please bring a trowel, small fork, boots and weather appropriate clothing, plus a packed lunch and your own drinks (you are also welcome to use the Tiltyard cafe).
