Description
Ulting Wick is a 11-acre garden, situated at Ulting near Maldon in Essex. It is centered around three listed black Essex barns and a 16th-century farmhouse. Recently it was voted one of the country’s top 100 gardens to visit by Garden News magazine.
The garden is open to the public, by appointment, under the National Garden Scheme. She has replaced dated and unfashionable plantings with a range of unusual plants and great design over the last 25 years. She spends much time discussing the garden and working alongside her head gardener, Matt Oliver. Matt studied at Writtle University College and came to Ulting Wick after 12 years working in the RHS garden at Hyde Hall.
Meet Philippa and Matt to discuss why and how hazels are regularly coppiced. and apply your newly learned skills with Philippa and Matt.
There will be a lunch break at which tea and coffee will be provided. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
Please bring with you secateurs, gloves, suitable clothing/boots. If possible: Loppers, small pruning saws, bill hook.
At the end of the day there will be an opportunity to take a few pea sticks home.
