Lincolnshire – Propagation Workshop & Tour of Burghley Estate Gardens

£35.00£55.00

Description

About the Venue:
Burghley Estate House is one of the largest and grandest surviving houses of the sixteenth century and a wonderful example of the great Elizabethan ‘prodigy’ houses, built to honour the Queen. Conceived by William Cecil, Lord High Treasurer to Queen Elizabeth I and built between 1555 and 1587, Burghley is a testament to the ambition and vision of the most powerful courtier of the first Elizabethan age.

Bursting with life, Burghley Gardens feature imaginative planting, sculpture and surprises sure to delight – two spectacular gardens, each with their own distinct atmosphere and beauty. Discover horticulture, sculpture and sensational seasonal colour as you stroll through the undulating landscape of the Sculpture Garden, Capability Brown’s lost gardens. Then step into a world of classical civilisation, astrology and astronomy in the highly entertaining Garden of Surprises. A sensory delight with the unexpected at every turn.

Joe Whitehead has been gardening all his life and went on to study horticulture after he left school. He has worked mainly in private estates, trained at RHS Wisely and has been Head Gardener with Burghley for over 5 years.

On this workshop attendees will cover seed sowing of annuals and perennials, soft wood, semi ripe and hardwood cuttings, leaf cuttings and root cuttings, and other types of propagation will be discussed including grafting and layering.

Attendees will have a guided tour of the private gardens with Joe, and the chance to then discover and explore the visitor gardens themselves.
