Description
Birmingham Botanical Gardens, an educational charity, is a 15-acre botanical garden south-west of Birmingham city centre. Designed in 1829 by the landscape gardener and horticulturalist John Claudius Loudon, the gardens are Grade II listed and retain many original features. There are a range of glasshouses and garden areas including Alpine and Japanese gardens, the National Bonsai Collection and a Pinetum.
This is a chance to work with the gardeners there to prune the formal rose garden, consisting of Hybrid T roses and David Austin roses. You will be working with their Senior Horticulturalist, to undertake the work. Attendees will be guided in the correct technique to prepare the roses for a summer of flowering.
Birmingham Botanical Gardens have informed us that it is a legal requirement for anyone working on site to wear safety boots (e.g. steel toe-capped boots). Please bring them with you on the day.
The cost of this PSD is £35 for member. Please bring your own packed lunch. You will need to bring gloves, sharp secateurs, and weather appropriate clothing.
