Description

Barnards Farm is owned and managed by the Christabella Charitable Trust. The 17 hectares of garden contain over 70 pieces of sculpture, woodland, ponds, a miniature railway, a dry garden, Japanese garden, parterre and Europe’s largest collection of crab apple trees.  In addition, there is also a collection of classic cars.

The gardens have been run for over 20 years ago by Barry the Estate Manager assisted by Alex, the Head Gardener and a large team of volunteers. They have had two recent WRAG trainees.

Arrive from 09:00 for a 09:30 start with tea/coffee and a briefing on pruning pleached pears and limes by Alex, the Head Gardener. Then it’s time to climb ladders and start pruning!

The aim of the session is to show attendees how to prune pleached trees to achieve the required shape and form. You’ll finish around 12:30

Essential: Secateurs, gloves, suitable clothing. If possible: loppers, small pruning saws. Note that ladders will be used on this Skills day.
